Our History

Energy Balance and Integration, LLC is a company combining technical and field experience over the past 45+ years.  Our combined staff and resources have provided testing and balancing services in New Mexico since 1976 and expanded services to Colorado, Eastern Arizona, and Western Texas.  EB&I prides itself on setting up commercial buildings to the utmost comfort and accuracy and has been doing so with pride and honor for decades.

In 1976, Alan Weitzel, a new mechanical engineer at the time, formed a company in test and balance, Energy Balance Inc. It started with him working the field alongside a couple of other hard-working men with a goal to set the bar in test and balance, air and water. He took on apprentice Tony Kocurek, just 18 at the time, willing to learn with the same work ethic and dedication to providing system-wide balance and solutions. They were problem-solvers embarking on a journey in an industry that was still so new with fundamental principles in physics. Before long, this small company had grown, and its reputation for success along with it.

In 2008, it was time for more progress. Alan was retiring and retired the name Energy Balance Inc. along with it. As his long-time apprentice, Tony was the leading man and continued the Energy Balance reputation for excellence with a new company Energy Balance & Integration.

In 2013, determined to find the best talent in New Mexico, EB&I instituted the intern program with the UNM Engineering department. This program brought education to a dozen students wanting to know more about the world of TAB. EB&I was proud to take on talented engineers Rallin Harris and Elias Maestas full-time.

Focused on moving forward in an industry that does not stand still, Tony and the team at Energy Balance & Integration have consistently delivered the utmost in quality test and balance. Often thinking outside of the box, Tony has encouraged and fostered a team that doesn't just read numbers. Our team understands air and water in a way that makes it easy to solve difficult problems and produce a system that fits the engineered design.

Check out what we are doing to innovate our industry as well as the team that is doing it.

"We don't just test pieces... We provide system-wide balance and solutions."

Our Team

Our goal from the moment we first receive plans for a project is to understand the full system. With years of experience under our belts, we can anticipate issues that may arise, accurately decide how to best approach test and balance, and establish a result with the highest level of satisfaction from contractors, engineers, and owners alike.

Our expert team is second to none in their array of knowledge of the commercial HVAC industry. EB&I is the most highly certified test and balance company in the southwest, being NEBB and TABB certified with national board positions with SMACNA, NEMI, and NEMIC.  We can test control systems, evaluate system operation, perform building airtightness testing and blower door testing, conduct duct leakage tests, and commission systems.  We know heating and cooling, air, and water.

The staff of EB&I has been involved with and has completed well over 8000 projects in New Mexico and the surrounding areas. Recent large jobs have included Covid-19 Emergency work at Gibson Medical Center, Chinle, Arizona Community Center, and the New Mexico Veteran's Hospital, Christus St. Vincent Hospital. Main TAB and IAQ services have included work at The University of New Mexico Physics and Astronomy, Seargent Majors Academy in El Paso, TX, Rust Medical Center, The Santa Fe Medical Center, The Blake Lodge in the Taos Ski Valley, Sandia Casino and Hotel, The New Mexico Sunport, Cibola High School Renovation, Amazon, Facebook, Los Alamos National Labs, CYFD, and many more. No project is too big or too small.

In an industry that moves fast, when an accurate test and balance is required, we know how to get the job done.

Innovating the Industry

If you want to make a difference, you have to move. Through years of experience, we have found what works. We have also found where things need improvement. In those areas, EB&I has refused to stand still and instead moved forward to make changes to benefit the test and balance industry nationwide. Here are some of the key areas in which EB&I has driven change.

  • Fire Life Safety and the Safety of New Mexico and Beyond

Saving lives. EB&I has continuously been working to bring about change concerning fire life safety regulations. In 2014, EB&I aided in introducing legislation that would allow a working group to convene and resolve matters concerning fire code and mandatory fire life safety inspections of fire dampers, smoke dampers and smoke control systems. This is an area that truly saves lives. In April of 2018, the owner of EB&I, Anthony Kocurek spoke at the ICB/TABB convention in Sacramento, California in the subject of what we can expect in the mechanical HVAC world concerning fire life safety. Energy Balance does provide fire life safety testing; quotes are available upon request.
